Hi Everyone,
Lauren Dils here, otherwise know as “the other half” of Pilot Fitness. Most of you know Josh from work or the blog posts, however, now that I am not building the website 24/7 I will be chiming in on the blog more often. We are currently making some updates and changes to the site to make it more user friendly. This will be great in the long run and allow us to work on content for you instead of constantly trouble shooting IT problems! We are hoping to have everything resolved in two weeks opening up our time to make new recipes for you as well as get our exercise portion of the website in working order. You know what that means….No excuses for skipping workouts while on the road! 🙂
Speaking of workouts, we all know it is hard to squeeze in a workout from time to time and well, sometimes motivation is nonexistent but we are not looking for perfection. We are simply looking to help improve your life in any way we can. We know what has worked for us and are here to bring that to you in the hopes that it will work for you too…..or even if just extracting bits and pieces of what we do to fit what will work for you. This is not a one size fits all approach. Ultimately it is your life, your choices and your attitude. We just want to bring our passion and knowledge to you because we wish we had known a lot of this sooner and love where our lives journey has taken us. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my first post.
Don’t feel like exercising today? Me either! Well, at least that is how I felt earlier. After getting up bright and early and spending the morning working, the last thing I wanted to do was exercise on my short break in the afternoon. With the weather better today than it has been for a while (albeit a little windy for my taste) the sun was beckoning me outside for a run while my mind was rationalizing a “day off” (even though I know it will be more difficult to squeeze it in tomorrow) and my body was willing me to just sit down and take a load off. However, I always have that little driving force urging me on…knowing I will feel a million times better if I just get my butt out the door. So I got dressed as motivation, finished some “chores” around the house and headed out without thinking.
I did, however, leave with one thought; “I will just do our standard to the gate and back” if I am not feeling up to the whole loop as it is better than nothing. Well, guess what? Not only did I feel up to the whole loop once I got going, I felt great the entire run. It allowed me the much needed time to space out, listen to my music and just go. It turned out to be one of my best runs in a long time and I felt energized and ready to tackle the rest of my day! I know this sounds a little cheesy and well, maybe it is, but it is the truth and often what happens when you stick to something and do it because you know it is the best thing for you. This can apply to all aspects of your day or life. Did you not eat very well earlier today or yesterday?….Ok, well what is stopping you from eating well from this moment on? Or with exercise…Simply get out there and move.
Even if you tell yourself you are just going for 15 minutes or do 1-3 sets of 10 squats, 10 pushups and 10 sit ups (or bet yet time yourself for 5 minutes and see how many rounds you can get in). It does not have be a grandiose effort every time. It might end at that 15 minute walk/jog or 5 minute routine and that is ok (better than nothing, right? Yes!), but what if it gives you that “pick me up” you have been looking for and you go for 20 minutes or 30 minutes or an hour .
The point is we all have a hard time motivating at times, even when it is our profession, but at the end of the day have you ever been upset that you exercised or ate food to nourish your body? I didn’t think so.
So, get out there and do something good for yourself whether it is exercising (even if it’s just a few minutes), improving your food choices, or working on changing your frame of mind. It is time to take action, find that driving force within you and make a difference in your life! So buck up, get going in a direction and we will see you along the way!
